BEFORE YOU START MEASURE YOUR ROOM
1. The length of all the walls in the
room you are designing. Measure wall
lengths in feet and inches.
2. The width of all door openings
(including closets and archways) in feet
and inches. Also measure the distance
from one end of each opening to the
nearest corner.
3. The width of all other fixtures and
built-ins (windows, fireplaces, outlets,
etc.) and the distance from each fixture
to the nearest corner.
4. A list of the furniture pieces you
wish to include in your room, along with
their approximate length and width.
Also list pieces you may wish to buy,
and their dimensions.
GENERAL INFORMATION
SELECTING A COMMAND: Commands for use in
MAGIC MOVER are listed on the screen
where they can be used. To select a
command, you need only type the first
letter of that command. Your choice will
appear after the prompt "Choose one:"
and will automatically be executed.
Rooms on a disk: You can save up to 12
rooms on your MAGIC MOVER diskette
before it is filled.
Walls: You can draw up to a total of 10
walls in your room.
Furniture: You can select up to 40
pieces from the selection menus; use up
to 20 pieces (furniture, fixtures, and
rules) in a room layout.
SELECT FURNITURE - TIPS
SELECT A PIECE: Type the first letter
of the category e.g. "B" for Beds. Then
type number of the piece. An "X" will
appear next to that piece. To
"de-select" the piece type the number to
its left again. The "X" will disappear.
DOOR and WINDOW selection: select a
piece labeled small (SML), for use in
rooms that fit in a 20'x10' space or
smaller. Pieces labeled large (Lg) are
for use in rooms larger than 40'x20'.
SPACING RULES: premeasured "rulers" that
are the recommended minimum spaces one
should allow between furniture for
various uses. When arranging furniture,
you can place the "ruler" in the room to
check for fit between furniture, and
erase it when done.
DRAW WALL - COMMANDS
MARK A CORNER: Type "M" to designate the
current cursor position as the starting
point for drawing a wall.
DRAW THE WALL: After marking the start
of the wall, move the cursor to the
location of the other end of the wall
(uses "Length of Wall" number on right
as a guide) type "D" to draw the wall.
ERASE THE WALL: Use the cursor keys to
place the cursor on top of a wall, and
press "E" to erase that wall.
INTERVAL CHANGE: To speed up the cursor,
press a number from "2" to "9" to
increase from two to nine times the
distance the cursor moves with each
keystroke. For greater precision, press
"1" to restore the standard interval.
ARRANGE FURNITURE - COMMANDS
VIEW PIECES: Lets you see your furniture
selections in the window in the lower
right corner of the screen. Use the
cursor keys to scroll through the list.
MOVE: Moves a piece from the viewing
window into the room at the cursor posi-
tion. Use cursor keys to move the piece
around the room. Press 2, 3 , ... 9 to
speed furniture movement.
DROP: Frees the cursor to travel to
another piece of furniture in the room.
ERASE: Causes the piece on which the
cursor rests to disappear from the room
but not from the selection list.
ROTATE: Activates the cursor keys to
spin the piece to the right or left. Use
Move to go back to moving that piece.
ARRANGE FURNITURE - TIPS
SPEED: You can change the amount the
piece is moved each keypress by changing
the interval with the 1, 2, ... 9 keys.
FIXTURES: When placed directly on top of
a wall, doors and windows invert.
Windows appear as thin lines on the
thicker walls, the same method used
in many architectural drawings. Doors
visually create an opening in the wall
with a door extending from the opening.
MOVING PIECES ALREADY IN PLACE: Use DROP
to free the cursor from the current
piece. Use the cursor keys to move the
cursor until it touches the piece of
furniture you wish to move and press "M"
USING A PIECE TWICE: Use VIEW to bring
the piece to view in the window again.
Use MOVE to drop the copy into the room.
CHANGE ROOM - COMMANDS
DRAW WALLS: goes to the wall-drawing
part of the program, where you can
change the walls you've drawn.
ARRANGE PIECES: goes to the furniture-
moving part of MAGIC MOVER.
CHOOSE PIECES: goes to the Select Furn-
iture menu where you can add to or
delete from your furniture list.
GRID ON/OFF: toggles between a room
layout screen with/without grid lines.
PRINT: to make a hard copy of your room
on your printer. YOU MUST FIRST
CONFIGURE MAGIC MOVER TO YOUR PRINTER
(see "Setup Equipment" on main menu.)
SAVE: your current version of the room
to your MAGIC MOVER disk.
